Viva Magenta: the color of the year 2023 by Pantone and designers’ proposals
2023 is the year of rebirth. It is not an astrological phrase, but in general it’s the feeling after two years of pandemic and restrictions: finally, we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! To celebrate this new moment in history, the Pantone Color Institute has decided to give the year just begun the color Viva Magenta (code 18-1750): vibrant, bright, instilling courage and optimism.
It is the perfect balance of warm and cool tones, an “unconventional color for unconventional times”, as Pantone Vice President Laurie Pressman put it. Magenta is one of the primary color par excellence, among the oldest in history, at the same time its vibrancy belongs to the future where the virtual world is at the center of our daily actions.
Not surprisingly, even technology has thoughtfully embraced Viva Magenta: Motorola, for example, has developed a new smartphone model with this color.
Viva Magenta on the walkway
Officially announced last December 3rd, brands immediately began using it for their haute couture creations, presenting looks with a bold and jaunty character on the walkway.
The most daring, such as Michael Kors and Alessandro Vigilante, presented collections in which Viva Magenta is the protagonist of monochromatic total looks, while Valentino opted for wide, stiff skirts entirely in magenta, paired with white tops to tone it down.
Continuing, how can we not mention Roksanda‘s beautiful, festive and eccentric dresses: puffed sleeves, sequins, floral patterns… all strictly in magenta tones. These are contrasted by Christopher John Rogers’ coats, with a decidedly more serious cut, but no less intense in color.
And again Gucci, Blumarine, Loewe have given us beautiful creations for Spring Summer 2023, which are sure to inspire you for your formal and vacation looks. So, space also for colorful skirts, sarongs, strapless mini dresses and sandals. In short, to amaze there is something for everyone, the important thing is, as always, to range with your imagination!
Do you want to follow the fashion, but magenta is not for you? Don’t worry, you can choose to wear the more “important” garments in other colors but opting for a few details in palette. The vividness of the color is such that even a less experienced eye will recognize its incisiveness and we are sure it will give that extra twist to your outfit.
Play with contrasts, too! Pair magenta with purples, blues, or a yellow or pinkish beige if you love light colors.
For spring looks, stylists recommend pairing it with brown or pink, while in summer, neutral colors such as gray, or a more vibrant lime green are perfect.
Make-up
Viva Magenta is a full, saturated color, so it is ideal for use in make-up. If you prefer to show off a simple eye makeup, perhaps in neutral tones, then you can dare with a magenta lipstick; both those with a matte and a glossy finish are fine: the goal is to impress by highlighting lips!
For your make-up do you bet everything on the eyes? No problem, try with a bright smokey eyes always total magenta, or have fun blending it with silver eyeshadows, very trendy this winter, to show off a super cool style during your cocktail evenings!
Whatever way you wear it, get inspired by this beautiful color to create many characterful combinations and stand out at your best wherever you are!
