How MAT was born

Hello everyone, I have felt the desire to share my passion for fashion with an audience for a long time and this blog is designed to share with you about me and my creativity.

I will update the blog periodically dealing with various themes concerning fashion today and obviously my works which will have a dedicated space in the Gallery. In this first article, I decided to talk a little about myself, telling about my experience and how this passion of mine was born.

The love for the creation of clothing has always been within me, since my childhood. In fact, it is difficult for me to identify a real precise moment in which it was born as if it has always belonged to me.

As a child I started experimenting with my father’s famous “Singer” sewing machine, a tailor by profession who made high-quality men’s tailoring suits; I loved to customize clothes for my dolls and this used to make me feel very proud, as I had something unique that my friends couldn’t make. I remember that the first years that I approached this passion I was so young that I couldn’t even reach the pedals of the sewing machine and I tried to use it in secret when my father wasn’t at home, otherwise, he would be angry because he used to be afraid that I could harm myself and also because I was always able to block it.

Many times passion alone is not enough, the technique is also needed, so I decided to perfect it by studying fashion at the Fashion Institute, in Albania. I dreamed of working as a stylist, so in 2012 I started MAT, an experimental laboratory that has undergone several changes over time, becoming an atelier where I used to create clothes for Tv shows. In the meantime, I was also attending University, then graduating in Economics, specifically in Accounting and Finance, thanks to which I was able to skilfully juggle the numbers, which were fundamental to my business.

After a long journey in the world of entertainment in Albania and in tailor-made clothing, I felt that I was missing something, I could no longer have that drive and adrenaline that makes you dream big. I felt that I had to take my work to another dimension and to do so I had to change my vision, my way of designing. Therefore, subsequently, I decided to move to Italy to deepen my studies in fashion by studying Fashion Design first at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and then at Polimoda in Florence, specializing in leather goods and luxury products.

Taking care of MAT makes me feel satisfied and relaxed, so I decided to dedicate a website and a blog to it, making it possible to express feelings and emotions.

I have always loved beauty and shapes and reliefs inspire me a lot. Also, I love colors, white in particular, perhaps because it contains all the others. Finally, I like to add a touch of black for contrast, sophistication, myself and mystery. I let myself be guided by my instinct and desire to improve and perfect more and more. I think fashion affects life and has influenced humanity. Having your own style or trying to build one is the best way to bring out your character. Those who try more, risk more and, persevere longer can get the greatest advantages of this work. Today isn’t long enough to have creativity, today you need to know how to use it, to know how to create utility.

The latest F / W 2020 capsule collection is inspired by the desire to “touch the future”, by having a vision that goes beyond appearances, with garments created through the search for unconventional modeling lines and different mixed materials, combined so that they can stand out from each other. Freedom and independence are the principles and values on which this capsule is based, mixed with a character mystery, without impudence.

MAT stands out for its futuristic, innovative style, suitable for creative, strong, career personalities, but at the same time with its clean lines, it allows you to always feel at ease by bringing out your character in a natural and never in a built way.

In the choice of fabrics I rely on my sensations, I am attracted by the design and as soon as I touch the material with my hand it’s love at first sight, the same love that I then try to convey in my collections.

MAT is for me a loud reminder of what I am in a precise moment, it is like a figurative diary that visually shows me my state of mind. I use my creativity as an activity to discharge energy, thoughts and lived moments.

With MAT I invite men and women to always be themselves, this is for me the formula of being fashionable: combining the trends of the moment with your lifestyle and the way of being.

To all of those individuals that just like me are approaching the world of fashion, I would recommend never to stop developing and following their instincts, to always want to experiment and bring out the grit in a world that is never easy and where often chopsticks are put in the wheel.

This is what I did for MAT: work slowly but steadily to become who I am, with a lot of determination and willpower.

Thank you.
